Once humidity climbs above that range, your body has a harder time cooling itself naturally, which is why a 75 degree room with high humidity can feel warmer than a 78 degree room with humidity properly controlled.

Some common signs that humidity, not temperature, is the real issue include a home that feels sticky or damp despite the AC running, condensation forming on windows or around ductwork, a musty smell in certain rooms, and long AC run times that never quite seem to make the home feel comfortable.

Why Oversized Systems Make This Worse

One of the more surprising causes of poor humidity control is a system that is actually too powerful for the home. An oversized AC unit cools the air quickly and satisfies the thermostat fast, which sounds like a good thing. But dehumidification takes time. If the system shuts off as soon as the temperature target is hit, it hasn't had enough runtime to properly remove moisture from the air.

The result is a home that reads cold on the thermostat but still feels damp and uncomfortable. This is a common issue in homes where the AC system was sized without fully accounting for the home's layout, insulation, and Florida's humid climate.

Getting Both Temperature and Humidity Right

A properly sized and well-maintained system manages temperature and humidity together, not one at the expense of the other. This comes down to correct equipment sizing for your home, clean coils and proper airflow, and a system that runs long enough during each cycle to fully dehumidify the air it processes.
